Our latest podcast – skin cooling. Who needs it?

I seem to bang on and on about this all the time!!

Yes, I do. Why? Well, it’s quite simple – to successfully treat unwanted hairs and blood vessels in the skin, we need to ‘cook’ them until they die. That usually means inducing a fairly high temperature in those targets.

But, if we do that, then we run the risk of damaging lots of the surrounding tissues too – that could lead to scarring.

So, we need to cool the skin before and after the treatments. We must ensure that the high temperatures are balanced by the cooling to minimise any unwanted damage.

In essence, we are deliberately trying to “burn” something, so we must deliberately cool the region too! It’s simple thermodynamics.

Proper pre-cooling also reduces the pain significantly too, and the risk of pigmentary changes.

Our latest podcast is all about this. In it, Lisa and I chat about the positive benefits of proper skin cooling – both before and after the application of the laser/IPL energy.

It doesn’t matter which technology you use – if you are generating heat in the skin, you need to cool it!

Hope this helps,

Mike.
