Ice cooling the skin is ‘unsafe’…

Someone sent me this – it made me laugh!

“Ice packs can numb the skin too much” – how? By cooling the nerve endings (nociceptors) so much that they don’t send thermal pain signals to the brain.

“…preventing client from feeling crucial heat sensations.” Perhaps they can’t feel the heat sensations because the skin has been cooled down so much that there are no ‘heat sensations’!!

Honestly – how do people think like this? This is exactly what we are trying to do – cool the skin so much that they don’t feel the thermal pain. That is the point!!

Plus, it also minimises any thermal damage, because (you guessed it) the skin is cold…

It’s not rocket science – it’s thermodynamics!

Enough.

Mike.
